About Me
My name is Lucy, and I am a qualified adult counsellor and the founder of Bloom and Breathe Counselling.
My work is primarily grounded in person-centered, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural approaches, which allow counselling to be shaped around you as an individual rather than following a fixed model.
Alongside this, I draw on wider study and ongoing professional development, working in a trauma-informed way that recognises how life experiences can impact emotional wellbeing.
Alongside my private practice, I also volunteer as a counsellor with Macmillan, supporting people who are affected by cancer and the emotional challenges that can come with it.
I believe counselling should feel safe, respectful a space where you don’t have to have everything worked out, and where there’s no pressure to be anything other than yourself.
I am neurodivergent, and this informs how I understand the ways people experience the world, process emotions, and make sense of their inner lives. This perspective supports a flexible, thoughtful approach that values difference and individuality.
At its heart, counselling with me is about you, your experiences, your pace, and what feels meaningful for you to explore

Our Philosophy
“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows — not the flower.”
— Alexander Den Heijer

At the heart of my work is the belief that counselling should feel calm, respectful, and human. It’s not about fixing or changing who you are, but about creating space to understand yourself with greater clarity and compassion.
I view emotional distress as something that often develops in response to life experiences, relationships, and circumstances, rather than as a personal failing. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore these experiences in a way that feels supportive, thoughtful, and grounded.
The therapeutic relationship is central to this process. Feeling heard, understood, and safe matters, and the work develops at a pace that feels right for you, with space for reflection, uncertainty, and growth.
